Champion driver Scott Speed joins Rockstar Energy Drink for 2016

IRVINE, California

Defending Global Rallycross champion Scott Speed is joining the Rockstar Energy Drink family in 2016. The American driver will unveil his new Rockstar Energy Drink helmet at the rallycross season opener in May.

I love what they’re doing right now with us in rallycross and with their efforts in supercross and off-road truck racing — and everywhere else. I’m happy to be part of the team.”

Under the new partnership, Speed will wear a Rockstar Energy Drink helmet in all motorsport competition. The driver, who has competed in the top ranks of professional racing around the world and won the 2015 Global Rallycross Championship title, will continue to focus on the rapidly growing action motorsport this season.

“Scott is an amazing driver who has been successful at a lot of different racing disciplines,” said Michael Kelso, marketing director at Rockstar Energy Drink. “He’s extremely talented and a great ambassador for our brand. We’re proud to add another champion to our roster this year.”

Speed returns this year for a third full season with the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team alongside teammate Tanner Foust. He said he is looking forward to seeing how the team’s Volkswagen Beetle GRC cars stack up against the competition after a strong off-season development campaign.

“Last year was the first full year with the new Beetle GRC and we put a lot of work into making the car reliable and strong,” said Speed. “Now we’re able to focus on making it faster and I’m excited to see how all our hard work is going to pay off. I think we’ll be on full attack from the first race.”

Speed joined Beyond Marketing Group’s specialist motorsport division as a client in 2013 shortly after he began competing in rallycross. In addition to racing, the company is focused on brand strategy, trend forecasting, social media, event production and media buying. Rockstar Energy Drink driver Tanner Foust, is also a longtime client.

Defending Global Rallycross champion Scott Speed is a former Formula One driver who became the first American in Formula One since Michael Andretti when he joined Scuderia Toro Rosso for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. He returned to the U.S. to race NASCAR and opened his rallycross career in 2013 with a win in his X Games Brazil debut.

He turned his attention to rallycross fulltime in 2014 when he was named to the factory Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Team. He saw strong results in his first full season and went on to win the 2015 title with a record of eight podiums in 12 rounds, including back-to-back wins at the Los Angeles doubleheader.

Speed began his career in karting, progressing to winning campaigns in Formula Russell, Barber Formula Dodge and the Star Mazda series. He won a driver search in 2002 that led him to compete in British Formula Three. He won the German Formula Renault and Eurocup championships and competed in GP2 before being selected for the Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula One squad.
